On the 2nd of January 2010,  my husband and son (13) almost died, thanks to Jeep they didn't;On their way back from KwaZulu Natal, near King Williams Town, they were in a major accident, involving 4 other vehicles, all thanks to a cow on the road. My husband saw the cow too late and had no options, since there was a lot of traffic. He was the second vehicle to collide with the cow.


The moment of impact launched the Jeep and it went airborne, they then went down nose first and then did a 360 degree spin for approximately 60m with the Jeep sliding on the passenger side, where my son sat. His speed upon impact was 120km/h. The moment the Jeep tilted the safety “curtains” deployed, saving my son. Thanks to the reinforcement bars in the doors, the doors held fast. The paneling on the inside broke loose, but that is about all. If you look at the vehicle and the damage, one would think there would be serious injuries at the very least, but they sustained bruises and soft tissue damage only.


There is no doubt in my mind, the safety features and the overall sturdiness of the Jeep saved their lives. If they were traveling in any other vehicle, they would have died.


Therefore, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the efforts, time, planning etc. you put into creating a vehicle where safety is paramount. Thank you for giving me more time with my family. I know a Higher hand was at work as well, but Jeep was secondary in saving their lives.


My husband bought his Jeep just two months ago, and he loved Brutus (yes, he named his vehicle), but it was the best buy ever, and as soon as everything is sorted (insurance etc) he will be off to Rola in Strand, visiting Mr Kobus de Jager, where no doubt, he will purchase Brutus the 2nd. Like he said, if and when something like this happens again, he wants to be in a Jeep,  nothing else.
